Introduction to Basic Grooming Course

Objectives

This 2-day course builds on the foundation of our grooming seminar and workshop, providing a deeper understanding of essential grooming techniques. With 90% hands-on practice and just 10% theory, participants will gain real-world grooming experience while learning to:

  • Perform ear care, nail trimming, and basic hygiene trimming (paw pads, belly, inner thighs, and anus)

  • Master brushing, de-matting, and de-shedding techniques tailored to different coat types

  • Handle the full grooming process from bathing and drying to finishing touches for a polished look

Perfect for beginners, pet owners, and those interested in a more structured grooming foundation.

Requirements

No prior experience needed. Please bring your own tools if available (some will be provided):

  • Slicker Brush

  • Metal Comb

  • Nail Clippers

  • Hair Trimmer/Clipper

  • Nail Grinder or File (optional)

  • Brushing Spray (optional)

  • A dog for hands-on practice (recommended)

Pet Owner Scissoring Course

Objectives

This course is thoughtfully designed for pet owners who wish to take a more active role in maintaining their dog’s appearance and coat health between professional grooming sessions. With a strong focus on hands-on practice, this course provides the foundational skills and confidence needed to safely groom and style your pet at home. Through guided hands-on practice, you will:

  • How to safely handle grooming scissors, including proper grip and posture

  • The difference between scissoring and clipping, and when to use each

  • Basic body clipping and scissoring techniques for maintenance

  • How to style your dog’s face with the popular “Teddy Bear Head” look

  • Techniques to achieve balance, symmetry, and a clean finish

  • Best practices for handling your dog calmly during grooming

  • Tips to maintain coat health and appearance between grooming visits

This course empowers pet owners with professional-level knowledge in a friendly, supportive environment.

Requirements

  • Completion of the Basic Grooming Course is required before enrolling

  • Participants must bring their own grooming scissors

  • A dog for hands-on practice is recommended but not mandatory
